Collection and use of information stored in mydirections.co.uk

mydirections.co.uk holds information about your usersname, date of birth, school or college, school year, postcode, school or college and personal email addresses. You will be presented with five statements about your future and your decision making, which you then rate from strongly agree to strongly disagree. This is then used to generate your career readiness score. You will also be asked to select your likes and dislikes around 21 subjects, choose from up to 19 industry/business sectors you may want to work in and select up to five routes into work/education. In addition, you will be asked to give your consent for us to hold and use the information in mydirections.co.uk to allow you to receive appropriate information, advice and guidance.

mydirections.co.uk uses all the above information to generate appropriate and personalised content based on what stage in your life you are at and what you are interested in. The site also takes into account the words used in any searches and the articles read and selected as useful and relevant. You can update your details and preferences to reflect any changes.

Your careers adviser, other C+K Careers staff and if you are at school or college, your teacher (usually your careers teacher) can check that you have completed your profile. They can also view the information you entered: your personal details, subject likes/dislikes, sector interests, the routes you are considering and the career readiness score the information you entered has generated. In addition, they can see the articles you read and found relevant, any changes you make to your profile, the number of times you have logged into, including the last time you entered mydirections.co.uk.

All the above informarion will help your careers adviser and teacher to decide how best to help you achieve your future goals. A few articles have a 'red flag', meaning if you found any of them relevant/useful, your careers adviser will realise you need more help. Your adviser will probably then contact you again to offer more support.

If your school or college is using the work experience module on mydirections.co.uk, your careers adviser and teacher will be able to see how far you have got in completing the three work experience activities. If you seem to be having problems, they will be able to discuss with you how best to continue, so that you get the most out of the work experience offered.
