The Highways Operations Service at Kirklees Council provides a service that focuses on maintaining and improving Kirklees roads and pavements. There are four apprenticeship vacancies available in the service covering Huddersfield and Dewsbury.

Description

As an Apprentice Highway Maintenance Operativeyou will work on rural and urban roads to repair damaged surfaces, using hand and power tools and pedestrian plant machinery. Day-to-day tasks include:

Putting up and removing signage and guarding of highway works
Preparing, applying, compacting and removing soils, rocks and other materials
Operating machinery and carrying out routine maintenance on the equipment to make sure it is always fully operational
Helping with the loading and unloading of vehicles both by hand and by use of specialist equipment
Taking part in winter maintenance operations
